Who should consider fertility preservation?
Fertility preservation might be right for you if you:
Want to freeze your eggs before 35 to maximise your chances
Are not ready to start a family right now, but want to keep your options open
Have been diagnosed with cancer or are about to undergo medical treatment that may affect your fertility
Have a family history of early menopause
Have been diagnosed with endometriosis or another condition that may impact your ovarian reserve
Are gender-diverse or transitioning, and want to preserve your fertility
Simply want the peace of mind of knowing your future family is protected
For males and females diagnosed with cancer or who are about to undergo medical treatment that may affect their fertility
Fertility preservation is also an option for couples who want to freeze embryos together before they're ready to start their family.
What does fertility testing involve?
Your fertility assessment is tailored to your medical history, symptoms and family-building goals. Your specialist may recommend one or more of the following tests. Your preservation plan is tailored to your age, your health, and your future family goals. Here's what the process typically looks like.
Ovarian reserve assessment
Before anything else, we'll check how many eggs you have available. This involves an AMH blood test and a pelvic ultrasound with an antral follicle count (AFC) — together they give us a clear picture of your ovarian reserve and help us plan the best approach for you.
Hormone blood tests
We'll assess your hormone levels to understand how your ovaries are responding and make sure the timing and protocol for your egg collection are right for your body.
Ovarian stimulation
Over approximately 10–14 days, you'll take hormone injections to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Your specialist will monitor you closely throughout this process with regular scans and blood tests.
Egg collection
Once your eggs are ready, they're collected under light sedation in a short procedure. Most patients go home the same day.
Freezing & storage
Your eggs/embryos/sperm are frozen and stored in our laboratory until you're ready to use them.
