Resources for GPs & Clinicians
Everything you need to support your patients on their fertility journey — in one place.
Understanding Infertility
Infertility is a common condition, affecting approximately 1 in 6 couples worldwide. It is defined as the failure to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse, or 6 months if the woman is aged 35 years or older. While the causes vary, they may include female factors such as ovulatory disorders, tubal disease, endometriosis and diminished ovarian reserve, male factors including sperm abnormalities and erectile dysfunction, a combination of both, or unexplained infertility.
Egg Freezing from $3,300*
-
While egg freezing can be done at any age, outcomes are strongest before 35, when egg quality and quantity are higher. GPs are well placed to raise it proactively with patients in their late 20s and early 30s — especially those without a current partner or who are focused on career or study — rather than waiting for patients to ask.
-
Yes — for many patients, cost has been the biggest barrier to even exploring egg freezing. A clear starting price of $3,300 gives GPs a concrete, approachable figure to share, making it easier to open the conversation without patients assuming it's out of reach.
-
Patients can expect an initial consult covering fertility testing (like AMH and antral follicle count), a personalised cost breakdown, and a clear explanation of the stimulation and egg collection process — so they can make an informed decision before starting.
The Role of the GP
GPs are often the first point of contact for people facing fertility challenges — and play a vital role in building trust, providing reassurance, and initiating early evaluation. Initial assessment should include a thorough history, physical examination, and lifestyle review.

Supporting Patients
Infertility can bring grief, frustration, and stigma. GPs are well placed to provide meaningful emotional support by acknowledging feelings openly, using sensitive and inclusive language, normalising the experience, and referring to counselling or support groups when distress is high.
Lifestyle & Preconception Counselling
Encouraging patients to optimise their preconception health can make a meaningful difference to outcomes.
Key recommendations include:
Maintain a healthy BMI
Stop smoking and limit alcohol
Engage in regular exercise
Take folic acid supplementation
Reduce caffeine and stress
Encourage timed intercourse
