Egg Freezing

Egg freezing gives you the opportunity to preserve your fertility and keep your future family-building options open. Whether you're planning to have children later in life, focusing on your career, haven't yet found the right partner or are facing medical treatment that may affect your fertility, egg freezing can provide greater flexibility and peace of mind.

At Life Fertility Clinic, our experienced fertility specialists provide personalised advice and support to help you decide if egg freezing is right for you.

What is Egg Freezing?

Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a fertility preservation treatment where mature eggs are collected from the ovaries, frozen using advanced vitrification technology and safely stored for future use.

When you're ready to try for a pregnancy, your eggs can be thawed, fertilised with sperm through IVF and transferred into the uterus as an embryo.

Who should consider egg freezing?

Egg freezing may be suitable if you:

  • Want to delay starting a family

  • Are focusing on your career, education or personal goals

  • Haven't found the right partner but wish to preserve your fertility

  • Have been diagnosed with a medical condition that may affect fertility, such as endometriosis

  • Are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy or other medical treatments that may impact your fertility

  • Have a family history of early menopause or reduced ovarian reserve

A consultation with one of our fertility specialists can help determine whether egg freezing is the right option for you.

How does the egg freezing process work?

The process is similar to the early stages of IVF and typically takes around two weeks.

  1. Initial consultation

Your fertility specialist will review your medical history, discuss your goals and recommend any necessary fertility tests, including an ultrasound and blood tests.

  2. Ovarian stimulation

You'll take hormone medication for approximately 10 to 14 days to produce multiple mature eggs. During this time, you'll attend regular monitoring appointments.

  3. Egg collection

Once your eggs are ready, they are collected during a short procedure performed under light sedation.

  4. Freezing & Storage

Your mature eggs are frozen using vitrification, an advanced rapid-freezing technique that helps maximise egg survival when thawed. Your eggs are then safely stored until you're ready to use them.

When is the best time to freeze your eggs?

While egg freezing can be performed at different ages, success rates are generally higher when eggs are frozen at a younger age. This is because both the number and quality of eggs naturally decline over time, particularly after the age of 35.

Your fertility specialist can assess your ovarian reserve and discuss what egg freezing may mean for your individual circumstances.

Is egg freezing safe?

Yes. Egg freezing is a safe and well-established procedure that has helped many people preserve their fertility. Modern vitrification techniques have significantly improved the survival of frozen eggs, leading to successful pregnancies.

As with any medical procedure, there are some risks, which your fertility specialist will discuss with you before treatment.

How long can frozen eggs be stored?

Currently, eggs can be stored indefinitely
