Male Fertility
Male fertility is an important part of the journey to having a family. Sperm health can be influenced by a range of factors, including general health, lifestyle, medical conditions, medications, age, and previous treatments. At Life Fertility Clinic, we provide comprehensive male fertility assessment, testing, and fertility preservation, helping you understand your reproductive health and your options.
Male Fertility Testing
A fertility assessment can help identify factors that may be affecting your ability to conceive.
Depending on your circumstances, this may include:
Semen analysis to assess sperm count, movement, and morphology
Hormone testing to assess reproductive function
Physical assessment where appropriate
Further investigations such as genetic testing or sperm DNA testing when indicated
If you have a partner, your results are considered alongside their fertility assessment to provide a complete picture of your fertility.
Sperm production is influenced by overall health and lifestyle. Maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, eating a balanced diet, avoiding smoking, and moderating alcohol can all support reproductive health.
Some medications can significantly reduce sperm production. If you are taking specific medication or supplements and are concerned about your fertility, our specialists can advise you on your options.
Sperm health and lifestyle
When should you seek help?
You don’t need to wait until you have been trying to conceive for a year before talking to a fertility specialist. An earlier assessment may be appropriate if you have concerns about your sperm, a history of testicular problems or surgery, previous cancer treatment, or are taking testosterone or anabolic steroids.
Preserving fertility before cancer treatment
Some cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy, can affect sperm
production and may cause temporary or permanent infertility. If you have been diagnosed with cancer and may wish to have children in the future, fertility preservation should be discussed as early as possible — ideally before treatment begins.
Sperm freezing (sperm banking) is the most established method of preserving male fertility.
We can help you understand whether sperm freezing is appropriate for you and coordinate preservation with your oncology treatment where needed.
We can also discuss fertility preservation options in other circumstances, including before treatments or procedures that may affect future fertility.
