Fertility Testing
Fertility testing can help identify factors that may be affecting your ability to conceive and provide a clearer picture of your reproductive health.
You do not need to have fertility testing completed before your first appointment with us. Your fertility specialist will discuss your medical and fertility history and recommend the tests that are appropriate for you.
Fertility assessment generally looks at both partners, as fertility can be influenced by factors affecting either the female or male reproductive system.
Fertility Testing for Women
Depending on your circumstances, testing may include:
AMH blood test: Provides information about ovarian reserve.
Hormone blood tests: Can provide information about ovulation and reproductive hormones.
Pelvic ultrasound & antral follicle count (AFC): Assess the uterus and ovaries, including the number of small follicles within the ovaries, which provides information about ovarian reserve.
Additional testing: Further investigations may be recommended depending on your history and initial results.
No single test provides a complete picture of fertility. For example, AMH and AFC provide information about ovarian reserve but do not measure egg quality or guarantee future fertility.
Fertility Testing for Men
Your fertility assessment is tailored to your medical history, symptoms and family-building goals. Your specialist may recommend one or more of the following tests. The initial assessment will often include a semen analysis, which looks at factors such as sperm count, movement, and appearance.
Additional testing may be recommended if indicated by your medical history or semen analysis results.
What happens after my results?
Every person is different, so fertility testing is tailored to your individual circumstances. You may not need every test, and your specialist will explain what is recommended and why.
You don't need to have everything organised before you see us. We can guide you through the appropriate testing as part of your fertility assessment.
